Bismarck obtained his PhD from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2013. His interest in parasite biology and the immunological response to infection dates back to his undergraduate studies in Biology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana (2006).
After his PhD, he took up a lectureship at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, Ghana, and with postdoctoral funding from Fogarty through the VECD Consortium (2015/2016) and the Wellcome Trust (2016-2020), led a research group working on the biology and immunology of Plasmodium falciparum sexual stages. His work was subsequently supported by the UK Royal Society and the African Academy of Sciences (2020-2022) to study P. falciparum gametocyte development in the human bone marrow.
In 2023, he moved to KNUST, Kumasi, where he is now building an interdisciplinary malaria and infectious disease research programme focussing on the molecular, cellular and immunological aspects of malaria transmission stages in different host tissues.
